SOUTH DOWNS POETRY

Exploring, celebrating, developing the written and spoken word.

The South Downs Festival

South Downs Poetry Festival is an annual pop-up festival which – uniquely – spans many miles: the length and breadth of the beautiful South Downs National Park and the surrounding area. The festival is organised by Focus Arts, a registered charity (number 1200784).

Events

South Downs Poetry kicks off 2024 with our annual celebration of Keats and the Romantics. Then it’s onto the Novium for Roman Poetry and Music on Friday 31st May, the Festival of Chichester for the Poetry & Jazz Cafe on Tuesday 25 June and the Novium for Poetry and Music with actor/playwright Steven Berkoff on Tuesday 9th July.

Competition

The theme for this year’s poetry competition is the changing seasons.
We are inviting poets to continue a conversation engaged in by Shelley and his contemporaries more than 200 years ago applying a 21st century interpretation – actual or metaphorical – to the impact of the seasons’ cyclical rhythm.
